During July and August 2014 we continuously evaluated 9 endpoint protection products using settings as provided by the vendor. We always used the most current publicly-available version of all products for the testing. We focused on realistic test scenarios and challenged the products against real-world threats. Products had to demonstrate their capabilities using all components and protection layers.

To earn a VBSpam+ award, a product has to obtain a spam catch rate higher than 99.50% and zero false positives. In the July test, Bitdefender had the second best detection rate (99.94%) and the highest of the products that achieved the VBSpam+ award.

Virus Bulletin awarded VB100 for Bitdefender Security for File Servers 3.5 in October 2011 commenting “Detection rates in the infected sets were extremely impressive, close to perfect in most areas and dipping only slightly below 90% in the proactive week of the RAP sets.” In December 2010 Bitdefender Client Security 3.1.9 received VB100 award and in February 2011 Bitdefender Security for Samba 3.1.2 received VB100 award by obtaining the highest final score followed by a consecutive award also in February 2012.
Virus Bulletin has carried out independent comparative testing of anti-virus products. The tests focus on virus detection rates and scanning speed, as well as looking at how each product fares when scanning a set files that are known to be clean. In order to display the VB100 logo, an anti-virus product must have demonstrated in our tests that: It detects all In the Wild viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning, and it generates no false positives when scanning a set of clean files.
